This week – we’re focused on one of the wonderful leaders of our Middle School. Meet Kathy Coen. She wears a lot of hats at Field, including Co-Director of the Middle School, Middle School Instructional Coach, and English Teacher. Kathy grew up in New York and she loves horseback riding, poetry, swimming, walking her dog, and cooking. Keep reading to find out which baseball team Kathy’s dad pitched for.

Smith College, Boston University, University of Iowa
What is your favorite book or podcast?
I don’t have one favorite book (obviously) I have a top 100 though! Anna Karenina is definitely a top contender.
What is something that people at The Field School might not know about you?
My dad pitched for the Yankees!
What hobbies do you have outside of Field?
Horseback riding, poetry writing, swimming, dog walking, cooking
What is the first concert you ever attended?
Billy Joel
Who inspires you and why?
My children and my students inspire me because I am so interested in their curiosity and the way they see the world and the goals they have for their future. This gives me multiple lenses into how the world and how ideas are evolving and re-inspires my own intellect and imagination.
If you could share one piece of advice with your younger self, what would it be?
Always believe in the strength and infinite possibility you have inside yourself to take on the next challenge.
What do you love most about working at The Field School?
Kind of everything! My students and colleagues make me smile, think, seek new answers and ways of being and doing, and offer friendship, purpose, and a good deal of joy and laughter!
