Next up for Senior Spotlight is Lucas! Lucas came to Field in 10th grade, and now he’s heading to the College of William & Mary to study economics and international relations. Lucas has been busy during his time at Field – taking advantage of all the wonderful opportunities Field has to offer. He has played several sports and is part of the Hispanic and Latino Student Union (HSLU), just to name a few. Keep reading to discover what he’ll miss most about Field.

What major or subject area are you planning to pursue in college?

Economics and International Relations

What grade level did you enter Field?

10th

Why did you choose to attend The Field School?

I chose to attend The Field School because it stood out from all the other schools I considered when I moved back to the US. It is diverse and student-driven, which was the perfect option for me as someone who values a welcoming and independent environment. These aspects of Field are what made my years in this community special.

What has been your favorite class at Field?

African American Studies. My thinking about the progress we, as a society, have made regarding eliminating segregation and other forms of racism has evolved completely. Before taking this course, I only had superficial knowledge of the subject; now, not only have I learned that we are not even close to getting rid of race-related issues, but I also have a better idea of how to contribute to these struggles in my own way.

What sports/clubs did you take part in at Field?

  • Varsity Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Hispanic and Latino Student Union (HSLU)
  • City Planning Club

What has been your favorite memory at Field?

My favorite memory from my time at Field is my Intersession trip to Puerto Rico in 10th grade. It was an amazing time; exploring and learning about Puerto Rico's culture alongside my friends fueled my passion for travelling and immersion in different cultures. We cleaned up parks and beaches, planted trees in damaged areas, and spread awareness about these issues. This brought my attention to environmental issues that are present not only in Puerto Rico but across the globe.

What will you miss most about Field?

What I will miss most is the fun and close-knit community. Blue and Gold events, homecomings, and other community events make Field such an enjoyable school to be at, and the teachers I have had over the years contributed to that too.

What advice would you give future Field seniors?

My advice for future Field seniors is to enjoy your time here and make as much of your learning and extracurricular work as possible.

How did Field prepare you for your next chapter?

Field prepared me for the next chapter by giving me internship opportunities and exposing me to community service. Both of these are very important to learn, especially at a young age; now, I am prepared to continue interning and doing community service during college and the rest of my life.
